The Ariake Sea is a shallow sea with a tidal difference, where about 50% of seaweed is produced in Japan.
Suminoe Bay, located in the northern part of the Ariake Sea, where there is a seaweed net in Saga Prefecture, originates from Mt. Kanroku and joins the Utsu River and Rokkaku River from Tenzan and flows into Suminoe Bay. The Hayatsue River, which is a tributary of the Chikugo River, also flows into the east.
These rivers provide rich nutrients to the fishing grounds.
